Hello, and welcome to Night Shift Sabers. Please bear with us as we work to provide you with an informative, easy to use site.

While we have both been life-long Star Wars fans our business is still very new.

Night Shift Sabers was created by Timothy (Timmy) Boyle and Rob Trotman in 2009 in order to put a company name to the custom lightsabers that they had been building and selling for a little over a year. The name was chosen because most of the saber designing/building/testing (playing) is done after Timmy gets home from work each night, and has been known to go on into the wee hours. We are continuously researching new technologies, practicing crafting techniques, and are always on the watch out for really cool design elements. We recently upgraded our shop with all new cabinets and storage, as well as several new pieces of equipment to aid us in our craft.

From fan-made movie replicas to wildly innovative designs, and from sabers made almost entirely from hardware store parts to vintage camera equipment to custom milled aircraft aluminum we strive to create works of art that inspire you to pick them up and actually use them! You see, the sabers that we make feature polycarbonate blades that are nearly unbreakable. A Master Replica or Hasbro Force FX saber is pretty, but the light is provided by a strip of multiple LED lights all along the blade. What this means is that even very light blade contact can cause the individual LEDs to short out, causing dim spots in the blade. The blade tube may also bend or break. Our sabers feature high power LEDs, in the hilt itself, that are projected up and diffused out throughout the length of the blade. This means that the blade can be hit extremely hard without fear of damaging the electronics. In over a year of crafting and testing our sabers we have only once managed to damage a blade, Timmy was bashing the blade on the sharp concrete corner of a curb and the blade tip popped off. So even if you do manage to break or damage a blade you are only looking at about 5-10% of the entire cost of the saber to replace the blade.
